Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with Criminal Tribe Records - Interview

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with Criminal Tribe Records - Interview

What made you decide to create Record Label?

Criminal Tribe Records was born 2.5 years ago by Alexei “Hornet” Tereshkov.
Reason was the great love for music, breakbeat and Bigbeat.
for various reasons, there are problems that such a material will convey to the listener. Our label is addressing this problem. We are apolitical. we are ready to give themselves entirely to what would have happened rebirth of this trend in music.

How did you come up with the name?

When we looking back, to the very beginning of the label formation, just one phrase was in front of us: Do you remember those dashing nineties?! When in other countries people had rave music, in Russia was criminal all over - hence came the name that came up with Eugene Wertos, he came up with the logo in the form of a bear paw in Slavonic Russian spirit.

In your years in the music business, what is the best thing about being involved with it and the worst?

Many do not even have a clue about the existence of a Big Beat! Those who are familiar with this area, it is believed that this music is dead - it is a sad moment. It was difficult to find support. But most of all pleased that continuing to work in this direction, there was a lot of people who supported us, who is also in love with this music. Thus there was a team.

What’s your most memorable experience inside the label?

We had great support Crystal Method and Linda-B

Tell us a little about your role as the record label. What does your day-to-day look like?

The most interesting thing is communication with the infinitely talented people)) every day I introduce different people with our music.

When looking into potential new artists to sign, what are some of the qualities that you find exciting?

Professional and a great desire and commitment - this is the most important quality))
We have a radio station, and original radio shows. Our DJ “Floyd the Barber” is looking for a suitable material for all secluded areas of the planet, in consequence all that can be heard on his show (twice a month). It was he who selects artists and tracks.

Do you have any advice to offer up to incoming artists/djs/bands?

I appeal to all the artists and the producers, particularly for beginners that they would continue to do what they like to wish them all the vast and endless inspiration, and of course a lack of belief in yourself !! We believe in you !! We believe in the Big Beat))))

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with Ravesta Records - Interview

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with Ravesta Records - Interview

What made you decide to create Record Label?

I’ve been a Dj / Producer since the 90’s and knew a lot of other producers over the US that were very talented and needed a way to put their music out, So I thought why not help the cause and start my own label.

How did you come up with the name?

The name came from a conversation I had with Dj/Producer Devin Martin of “Rankin Audio” It all started when we were talking about an outdoor Rave that was coming up and being out over the stars, so in short we came up with Ravesta.

In your years in the music business, what is the best thing about being involved with it and the worst?

Meeting new people and listen to all the new production is the best thing, I’m my own opinion. Some of the dealings with stores and publishers in the past are the worst. We have a good home now and are very happy with our partners. It took years to get to this point, But it was worth what we went through and learned a lot without a doubt.

What’s your most memorable experience inside the label?

Tell us a little about your role as the record label. Working with great artist and Dj’ s, having the first peak at all the newest music and mixes from new and older talents. Some of the best moments of our history is seeing a new artist go top 10 on his/ her first release and thanking us for the support.

What does your day-to-day look like?

I stay very busy juggling a full time career and work day and night to better our label, I have a lot of help as our team is very dedicated to the music and artist we work with. I couldn’t do it without them.

When looking into potential new artists to sign, what are some of the qualities that you find exciting?

We are always looking for the next big thing, We really pay attention to the quality of the music and the potential of an upcoming artist.

Do you have any advice to offer up to incoming artists/djs/bands?

Work hard and when you think you are working hard work harder it’s not an easy task but if you love the music you will be successful. It’s only a matter of time. One thing to always remember have fun!!!

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with Under Influence (Russia) Interview

 Under Influence (Russia)
All artists nominated in the Breakbeat Awards 2016

Under influemce(Russia) - Musical electronic duet orientated on making music
in genre BigBeat / Breakbeat / Funk. The Idea of this project is to bring something new to the old school sounding of breakbeat and also to reflect veiw and vision on this style excluding typical new school sounding of such genres as drum'n'bass, breaks, dubstep etc. The project was created at April 2014.

How was 2016 for you?

2016 was quite fruitful for us, despite the fact that we have not released our first full length album))

Under Influence - Youngman (Original Mix)
Can you tell us what your favorite thing is about your track?

I think this is the most powerful and original track, which we released in 2016) the track in the best traditions of the genre, it is visible to power and simply blast the brain!
By the way, now this track is and freely available - https://soundcloud.com/criminal_tribe_records/under-influence-youngman-original-mix-free-download?in=criminal_tribe_records/sets/christmas-present-ctrfree026

Can you tell us about new projects you will be working on in 2017?
Almost all of 2017 will be paid to writing our first album, well, just be a little less important projects.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?

Every day is absolutely not similar to the other, the whole process can take place at all chaotic, you never know what will happen)

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?
FL Studio 11 & Logic

Any particular artists / dj's / producers that really influenced you?
the biggest impact is the Fatboy Slim and The Chemical Brothers, there are also other teams that are less influenced our music glance

How's the (electronic) music scene in this moment in your country?
After 90 years of the last century, music became a broken bit is not very popular (((but now it goes to the rebirth of the popularity of this genre

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

Well, of course! well, maybe not the city but the entire country as a whole certainly affects the music!

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with MustBeat Crew - Records - Interview

Inside BBSAwards 2016 - One day with MustBeat Crew - Records - Interview

What made you decide to create Record Label?

Natural progression… We wanted to find an outfit for our own releases in the first place, yet having had the first release out with MustBeat Crew tracks on it, we started to receive lotsa requests and demos, thus opened the label for anybody...

How did you come up with the name?
MustBeat Crew is local group of DJ’s, musicians and party-promoters from Budapest, chasing the dream since 2001…Choosing the same name when starting the label in 2011 seemed to be an obvious decision!

In your years in the music business, what is the best thing about being involved with it and the worst?
Hmm, best should be the people: getting in touch and meeting peeps from different cultures with diverse approaches on life is quite uplifting a thing! Worst shall be the people again!! Misunderstandings, bad communication… guess, concerning this question, music business is as the same as just life is!

What’s your most memorable experience inside the label?

Today!! LOL, but yes indeed!! I’m actually kinda trying to get to experience the present as much as possible, so if you asked me tomorrow, my answer still would be the same!!

Tell us a little about your role as the record label. What does your day-to-day look like?
We are a small and independent label, no daily schedule applied!! I personally do small steps each and every day… like arranging dates of mastering, writing an email regarding youtube monetization, making a phone call for visual or grahpical elements, keeping artists posted on remixes, etc, etc...

When looking into potential new artists to sign, what are some of the qualities that you find exciting?
I don’t have a clue!! Haha… Really… Anything we come across and we like, it can come as long as it has got broken beat in it -  let it be reggae, hip-hop, ghetto-funk, glitch, breaks, drum’n’bass.

Do you have any advice to offer up to incoming artists/djs/bands?

Who am I to say anything like that?!
Instead of that, let me share the thoughts by Guru of Gang Starr on this:

They say it's lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch motherfuckers around you
Nobody's invincible, no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth

Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge
You may not know the hardships people don't speak of
It's best to step back, and observe with couth
For we all must meet our moment of truth

What made you decide to create Record Label?

I was working closely with Radical Mixtape Recordings and was offered the chance to start my own label, at the time we were an offshoot of Radical Mixtape but over time we went our separate ways. Our aim in Relative Dimensions was to help up and coming artists and producers and hopefully bring something fresh to people's ears, much like the infamous Scour that Spinforth used to run on the Ghetto Funk blog. I was always open to the idea of working with other labels and letting artists have complete freedom in whatever they wanted to make. Over time we became more of a community than a label and we are always open to collaborations and remixes and trying new ideas.

How did you come up with the name?

Well as I'm Doctor Hooka and always called my laptop the TARDIS it was always the plan to try and create something that could work well with that. Sci fi geeks will obviously know straight away but the TARDIS is an acronym for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, so we came from Gallifrey I suppose

In your years in the music business, what is the best thing about being involved with it and the worst?

The best thing has always been the music, the entire reason I do anything is for the love of music. The label opens doors and gains contacts and networking options but it's always been about the music above anything else! What don't I like? Politics, this whole business is full of it and it can be a massive obstacle. I have always firmly believed that our scene isn't huge and we should all work with each other, sadly that's a rare thing.

What’s your most memorable experience inside the label?

We were nominated for a Breakspoll award as best new label, we didn't win but the nomination was enough praise and something we never expected nor will we ever forget.

Tell us a little about your role as the record label. What does your day-to-day look like?

We built up an amazing little team so a big chunk of the day to day work goes to Dan of Mr. Rich & The Caretaker and Vinyl Messi. We have a fair few things in the pipeline but our day to day tends to be a lot of planning fresh ideas and remixes and chasing up demos and unfinished tracks. We have a staffroom but that's basically a room full of banter when we're not working haha.

When looking into potential new artists to sign, what are some of the qualities that you find exciting?

Originality and new ideas are always a bonus. Musicians that become producers always have a fresh take on things, for example Leygo is also a drummer and the way he looks at beats is very refreshing. We have some MCs that are currently buried in writing and rehearsals so we will have a tight group of in house talent.
Do you have any advice to offer up to incoming artists/djs/bands?
Never give up, chase your dreams and work your hardest to achieve them. Nothing is impossible and dreams can be reality. Never fake the funk

Relative Dimensions is a community Label overseen by the gynaecologist of beats Doctor Hooka. Nominated Best New Label at the 2014 Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards.
