How was 2016 for you?

2016 was a great year for me musically and personally. I was able to DJ in quite a few new places and release quite a few new original tracks as well as remixes. I also stepped out a bit more in 2016 as a vocalist by being featured on Agent K’s “String Theory”, Phat Kidz “What You Got”, and quite a few of my original productions.

WHAT YOU GOT
Can you tell us what your favorite thing is about your track?

My favorite thing about “What You Got” was collaborating with the Phat Kidz for the first time. I have been friends with the Phat Kidz for quite awhile now. Outside of being talented DJ’s and producers they are both such great people. Collaborating as the featured vocalist was a really great experience and I am proud of that tune.

Can you tell us about new projects you will be working on 2017?

2017 is already ramping up to be a very busy year. I just finished a remixes for G$Montana & NeuroziZ, Agent K, and D-Xtreme. I just finished a new original called “Like We Do” that will be coming out on Dog Eat Dog Records in February. I currently am working on a collaboration with Dustin Dynasty which is shaping up to be a pretty wicked banger. We also have a few new breaks tunes in the cue for my label M-Toxin Recordings.

Outside of the breaks world I am working on a few deep house tunes with my brother Dylan .JK. Vogt and DJ Avlish along with my HouseFlyz pseudonym.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?

A typical studio session for me will start by pulling drum samples. I am always looking for new percussion sounds and I spend a ridiculous amount of time looking online for new drum samples to add to my library.  I start by auditioning new kicks, snares, and then move on to other percussion samples that will stand out to make the track unique. Once I have that established I work on getting a percussion pulse together in order to get the groove that I am looking for. After the percussion I move to finding synth parts that play off of the drum groove. If I have a good groove going on in my percussion I will almost hear the synth parts that are supposed to be there before playing them in and finding the proper sound.
Once that pulse is established I move on to chord structure in order to build the bass line. I work with an 8 measure loop until I am feeling the groove of what I have put together. Once I am happy with that I move onto the arrangement of putting the song itself together. Honestly I could go on and on about what a “typical” day in the studio is like. I love making music and thoroughly enjoy every second involved with the release that time in the studio gives me.

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

Because I have been using Logic since version 4 I feel as if I can almost use it in my sleep. In my opinion your production software becomes an extension of your thoughts and emotions at times when making music. I have my favorite plug-ins which have sounds I have manipulated over the years to give me what I consider to be “my sound”. I love spending time learning new plug-ins because it feels as if you are given a new sonic color to paint with. Adding something new to music the production process will always help create something fresh and unexpected.

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?

Logic X - Hands down it has been an amazing ever evolving piece of software. At times a new version of any software will annoy you, but in the end Logic has always been a solid with making workflow more efficient with every version.

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

I listen to all sorts of music and all have a large impact on me. If I had to name a few…
For electronic music production I would say Hybrid and Sasha originally inspired me to do what I do. My boys Under This out of Latvia are always an inspiration and I am honored to have been given the opportunity to work with them on a few projects. Currently Left / Right, Plump DJ’s, and deep house sets by Dom Donnelly have been very big influences on me and the direction of my music.
As a vocalist and songwriter a group called Mansions On The Moon have been a huge influence. Their songwriting and the way they layer their vocals is just amazing. The latest Rufus Du Sol album has been a large vocal inspiration for my song writing and vocals. I am also really into a rock group called Circa Survive who musically and lyrically are genius. They put on such a phenomenal live show that I have had to see Circa Survive 8 times now.

How’s the (electronic) music scene in this moment in your country?

This is completely my observation and opinion, but overall the electronic music scene here in the states seems very fickle. People in the USA for the most part want to hear only songs they know when they go out. It is almost always the same DJ’s all playing the same songs. We have some great nights in Orlando, but during those nights you see people walking up to the DJ asking for requests. The “it’s all about me and what I want to dance to” generation is never going to be open to something they have never heard. Personally, when I go hear a DJ I want to be inspired by hearing something new and groundbreaking or something they may have just finished producing before it comes out. I am not sitting here dogging the state of electronic music in the states. I am fortunate enough to travel all over the US and there are some amazing underground club nights scattered throughout the country. I am really talking more of what I see on the surface and what I deal with first hand.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

Hell yes! In the 90’s when I moved to Orlando from Pennsylvania I was into punk, metal, and alternative music.  I walked into a packed club called Firestone at 3am. There was this guy with 3 turntables in front of him and he had the place rocking. I knew I had walked into something special. I later realized I had walked into a set by Carl Cox. Orlando always has had a leg up on electronic music especially in the 90’s. We used to have a weekend of Sasha or Paul Van Dyk and then have an amazing list of local DJ’s such as Icey, Chris Fortier, Jimmy Van M, AK1200, Dave Cannalte, Kimball Collins, Baby Anne etc. Outside of these great club nights there were also the producers making electronic dance music many of these guys played. I was fortunate enough to be in on the production side throughout these years and cut my teeth working with people like Bill Hamel, 69 Boyz, Alex G, Sam Mollison, AK1200, etc. I learned to use the melodic spacey sounds of progressive house and add it to a hard hitting breakbeat that morphed into what I consider to be  “my sound”. Overall I feel living in Orlando which always has had the best mix of house and breaks molded me into the producer / DJ I am today.

I usually go in the morning study, listen to what I did the day before and start to work, usually all day doing various breaks

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I personally do not use thousands of vst, I prefer to take a few, and exploit them to 100%. I choose them based on the features I need and I do not find already in the native ones

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?

Ableton Live

Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Quantic, Daft Punk, Afrika Bambaataa, Stickybuds, Featurecast, Slynk, jPod

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?

In Italy genres such as house and techno have a monopoly, the genres that I do are still little known

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

more than the city I think is the nature that surrounds me influences my music, the sun and the sea greatly affect your mood

interview N°10:BBA2016 -  BORKA FM - Hanover, Germany
All artists nominated in the Breakbeat Awards 2016

LINK TO VOTE:

How was 2016 for you?

In general 2016 was as long as every year …
But I'm much more satisfied with all the  BREAKS“ within! There has been some releases that I'm really happy about. For example the collaborations with  Deep Garnet Records“ and my EP  Butterflies“. This shows my vision of the  new breaks order“!! My aim is and was to reinvent the breaks-music, to get it deeper, to open it to the house-public,  to reach more and more compliance in a bigger audience!

Jump Up Original Mix
Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your new track?

As in every track of mine, I love most the way of its genesis. It was developed in a jam session with my good synthesizer-friends called  Prophet“,  Moog“ and  Gaia“
It can be regarded as the result of an inspirational feeling. And if you create music by following your emotions, combining it with actual moods, something special is always guaranteed. Through the track  Jump Up“ is flowing an amazing positive vibe from the beginning until the end. On top it fits as good with nuskool as it fits with oldskool – like a fusion of both. When I listen to it now I always remember exactly these feelings, these emotions, these moods which came along with me and my synthy-friends while jamming ❤. Also I have to thank all of my vocal-friends for spending me such powerful voices – in this case Joker and Julie.

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?

I think 2017 will have as many days as every year too – and for that reason there are existing a lot of chances to surprise the breakbeat-scene... you can be certain that you will hear about me and new realeases soon.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are you habits?

That's easy: When I leave my bed I enter my studio! Why? My studio is my living room and my living-room is next to the bedroom!
A typical day: I leave my bed, cross the studio to brew a coffee in the kitchen, while brewing I clean up my synthesizer-friends, power-on the PC, then I reduce everything into a fluid state and allow full bent. In this way I go hands in hands with the music alldaylong.  It's a routine I'm already practicing since my early childhood: music is my life! But unfortunately I have to leave my little paradise to go to work, too

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I'm addictet to FL Studio since 1999 – on top I'm using a lot of plug-ins. Which one I choose depends on the effect I need. I love most of the fabfilter-plug-ins. In the field of software-synthesizers my favorite is FM8, but in general I create my sounds with my synthesizer-friends.

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?

There is living an extended production gear family in my studio and I'm lovin' all of them!

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

Sure! There are many many many artists that influenced me – the laundry list of them is kind of  endless. In the 90s I started studying electronic music and shortly thereafter I began producing on my own. So many artits of this time influenced me – some less, some more. Just to give you an impression: DeeJay Punk- Roc's LP "Chicken Eye", especially the titel track "My Beatbox", Westbam's LP "We'll never stop living this way", Way Out West's EP "Blue", all of The Prodigy's LPs and many more. By the time I got in touch with several other music-styles which continue the list, including hiphop, bossanova and jazz. If there will be ever an end of the list? I don't think so. I like being influenced, getting in touch with new music and never want to stop developing my own style!

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?

I think in Germany most of the people are listening to house- and techno-music. There are also small groups which prefer other styles like drum'n'bass, hip-hop and so on. But unfortunately our breaks-scene has  broken“. Some years ago we had some really great parties - also next to my hometown Hannover - but today this kind of music nearly disappeared from the dancefloor. It's pity!

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

The regional music of my country does not directly influence our music, if it is true that influences the definition of our musical tastes as both songs share great rhythmic and warm sensations

8th interview:BBA2016 -  Aural Abuse - Dublin - Ireland -
Interview with all artists nominated in the Breakbeat Awards 2016

LINK TO VOTE:

Aural Abuse started out life as one half of Dublin band C-Quence (Alan Walsh and Steven Connolly). From Kilbarrack the duo embarked on a 12 year rollercoaster ride which saw them performing alongside some of the worlds biggest DJ's including Mickey Finn, Phil Jubb, Justin Garett, Eric Morillo, Paul Oakenfold, D:Ream etc. Most of the gigs took place in Dublin's Ormond Multimedia centre which was later torn down to make way for a hotel.

C-Quence decided to stop gigging as the gigs were coming faster that the material could be produced and this ultimately led to the duo writing their projects separately. Steven went on to form the hugely successful "Man in a Room" which resides primarily on the Queep label.

Meanwhile Alan went to the darker side of the world of music and started producing Nu Skool breaks under the guise Aural Abuse. The style of breaks produced vary from the dirty Botchit style sound to the more ambient beatless sounds found on some of the newer labels in the UK.

Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your new track - production?
A:I love the freedom that breaks labels give yo when remixing a track. There are no guides to follow or requests for a particular sound, just freedom of expression.

AURAL ABUSE

THEY AIN'T READY
AURAL ABUSE REMIX

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?
A: 2016 was a very very busy year for me and production took a back seat.  2017 will strt off as busy but I plan to get a lot of new tracks done from June onwards.  I weant to have a decent back catalogue

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?
A: I always start off by creating a few presets, then put in a basic beat for metrenome and build from there.  I look at lyrics and fx after i have created an intro but most if not all the parts from that first process are binned in the middle of the track.  The tune just evolves itself after a while.
How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?
A:I use renoise as I started writing on trackers back in the late 90's and just always liked that method of producing.  I try to use the least amount of plug ins possible, they are crazy expensive

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?
A: My Access virus C
Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?
A: Freq nasty, Atomic hooligan,  all the early botchit and scarper stuff

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?
A: Dublin is my city, its mostly technoor house  in the clubs. A little drum and bass and also breaks but not much.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?
A: In a way, my early years were spent in the rave scene in Dublin so i like my hands in the air build ups

6th interview:BBA2016 -  HANKOOK Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain
Interview with all artists nominated in the Breakbeat Awards 2016

Drop The Bass

How was 2016 for you?

It was a good year for me cause I feel I have evolved into who I am as a producer. Ive done remixes for big artist and started working with other big name producers.

TRACK
FUNK SOUL
ORIGINAL
Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your  track?

I love the vocals “Funk, Soul and Rock n Roll “ and I enjoyed writing it with some great producers BBK and Shade K.

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?

I am currently working on something for Funky Flavor I have never attempted or really heard of anyone attempting but I am remixing 2 Colombo Originals into 1 remix!!!

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day?

I usually sit at my desk and just listen to either what Ive already started or tracks that I like a few times while I get my head right and ready to start writing. Then Ill begin writing.

 What are your habits?

I like to start from the beginning and write my track out to the end and then come back and delete or change what I don't care for or if its too much. Then go to eq it all and do my mix down before mastering.

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I had Logic Pro X built in my Mac when I had it built to produce. A lot of the bigger producer talked highly of it also. For plugins I usually go with whats being recommended the most or whats gonna fit with what Im trying to accomplish.

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?
I would have to say my Komplete Kontrol 61 keyboard.

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

I would say like a Stanton Warriors or Icey.

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?

The breaks scene is really a dying thing in the USA, but there are some places where its still alive and having events.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

No not at all. I live in New Orleans and the music here is mostly hip-hop bounce or Trap or blues music.

Freq Boutique has established himself in the breakbeat community by providing his funky, dirty breaks sound. The music is a mix of trends both current and classic. FREQ BOUTIQUE Breaks can be tagged as BASS, BOOTY, TRAP, FUNKY, NUSKOOL.

This is just the start, so if you're a fan, stay tuned. The best Freq is yet to come!

How was 2016 for you?

I pushed myself to test the boundaries of any given trend in breakbeats from the last 20 years and infuse them with a current sound. I think the product turned out great, yeah! 2017 will be a big year for Breaks!

WERK YOUR BODY Original Mix
Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your  track?

Working with classic samples cut from Gino Latino, 2 Live Crew and 2 Hyped Bros and a Dog!

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?

Recently launched Subroutine Records to collaborate with like minds across the world. Look out for Freq Boutique, Future Funk Squad, Pray for Bass, Rick Tedesco and more.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?

I walk in 50% of the time with tasks to do on WIP 25% of the time I have a clear idea on a new track and the other 25% I'm lost in space haha.

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I've recently picked back up Reason 9.0 and have absolutely fallen in love with the Best drum/sampler out there called Kong. This sampler has so much potential and I've just begun hammering it home.

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?

DJ gear. Without listening and playing all the brilliant songs out there, I would be writing minimal or children's music. Yep.

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

Hands down Fixx, and the Florida Sound, Plump DJs and the Funky UK sound, PMT and the Nuskool sound as of right now I'm impressed with Rick Tedesco, Paket, Yo Speed, Suga7 and Left/Right.

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?

Trap and Hip Hop are king but they're still breaks. I'm not one to argue genres but that is the truth.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

Charlotte North Carolina is home to 2 Breaks labels Base Industry Records & Subroutine Records. We have a great local promoter group called Square Pegs. Lots of up and coming producers. Hate N Beanz, Dat Boy Fletch, DJ M.A.C., Skinner, Josh B, K Shyne and Ill G to name a few.

How was 2016 for you?

2016 was a bit slow for me music wise as I was involved in selling my home and relocating.  I tried not to take on any major projects until after the summer.  The largest project/undertaking for me was taking on the DJ role for hip hop group Butterfinger Bombsquad.  It has been good to get a few rehearsals and gigs with them under our belts for future work in 2017 and beyond.

ILL FIXED EP - Relative Dimensions
Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your tracks?

In this particular EP, I’m pleased that the tracks span across different tempos and overall flavor, from hip hop to glitch hop to breaks.  I’m happy with the production behind the title track iLL Fix and really like the old school b-boy break feeling behind Straight Stoopid.  In general I seem to set out with an idea for a track in mind but my results always end up with a classic sound/feel.   I used to try and fight it and attempt to be more mainstream-ish but eventually gave in to my own sound and embraced it.   Besides, if everyone sounded the same...well that wouldn’t be too much fun

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?

I’m looking forward to working with Butterfinger Bombsquad more and hopefully putting them on the map but I’m also certainly going to continue to release my own works.  I would like to make the effort to work on a Redbull 3Style type routine and try my hand at battling again.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?

When it comes to designing a track I will usually already have some kind of idea or sample I want to build on.  I know a lot of people are all “Bass bass bass” but that’s usually the last thing on my mind.  I like cohesiveness, good sequencing, overall mixdown and of course simply to have fun and enjoy the process.

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I use Ableton as my primary DAW, but having worked with Reason for so long, I’m simply addicted to all the soft synths and other instruments available in there so I will ReWire it into Ableton.  As for VSTs, I have a handful I work with.  Massive is one, but to be honest I rarely use it.  CamelCrusher is nice for fattening up drums and leads, it really depends on the track.  Frohmage is neat for crushing sounds, Voxengo for making stuff sound wider.  I have a good number of others too I’ll keep to myself though ;)

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?
Other than my computer, I would say midi keyboard.   You can’t push out a melody, lead or bassline as fast as you can with a keyboard.  Plus it’s fun to hammer out a few different melodies when you’re experimenting.

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

Any top tier battle/scratch DJ.  I find it a touch dull hearing guys simply mix track A into track B.  Not many seem to want to loop stuff or try something out of their comfort zone these days.  Q-Tips production on the new Tribe Called Quest album was fantastic.  RZA from Wu Tang has also been good.  Young Einstein from Ugly Duckling can pick out samples you’ve never heard and make them hits.  I like some of the bassy sounds from the Punx label, Left/Right for example.

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?

I can really only comment on the breaks side of things; which is quite slow.  There aren’t too many Canadians pushing out breaks.   You hear some ghettofunk type stuff but promoters generally only book breaks acts few and far between.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?
I live in a smaller town (Courtenay, BC) and am blessed with an incredible music scene.  Everyone here is quite supportive of each other and it seems like we have people representing many different genres.  Overall, the West Coast of Canada definitely has some roots in a funkier breaks sound.   I’m thinking of some of the guys who put in work here in the 90’s and 2000’s like Czech, Vinyl Ritchie, Mat the Alien and Wicked Lester.  That type of mid-tempo ish funky breakbeat was a major draw for me and I’d like to think I carry that sound in some of my tracks as they were certainly influential when I was growing up out here.

How was 2016 for you?

2016 was a super nice year for me. I played a lot of awesome shows and had super nice moments. I met a lot of nice and great people.
Of course in 2016  I didn´t find enough time for my music projects, but in 2017 I am sure it´ll getting better 😉

Across The Sea (Remixes) Honkey Phonk: Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your track?

I love the totally different Remixes on this Project. DJ Love is an awesome DJ and producer and he did a great job on his pumping HipHop Version.
The Funkanomics always a Banger and they always do a great Job!

I am working more on original music. The new Track with Tarzan Bros will coming out in the first half of 2017 and I am sure people will love it!

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day?

The first thing is: I get an idea. Than I go into my studio and try to make it real. Normally I begin with the beatz……

What are your habits?

I love Coffee and Choclate  😉

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?

I use Propellerheads Reason 8, Maschine Mikro. I use the Reason intern “Plug Ins”, (Rack-Extensions)

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?
Serato 😉

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?

Definitely Michael Jackson. For me Michael Jackson is still the best Artist on the Planet! Skeewiff and Fingerlickin Records influenced me strong for the Funky Breaks!

How’s the music scene in this moment in your country?

The Main-Genre in our Dance-Scene in Germany is still Electro and Techno. In smaller and different places you will get very nice Disco and Funk Sounds.
But I am sure Faster Breakbeat Sounds come back in 2017.

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?

In Nuremberg it´s difficult with my kind of music. People still love Techno and House-Music. But that’s okay for me. There are a lot of very nice
and very strong House and Techno Labels and Producer. It´s nice to go out for a night and find inspiration in this genre to get it in my own productions.
In doing Different things you always get better and better.

First interview with all artists nominated in the Breakbeat Awards 2016
Today: DRKWTR - Alberta (Canada)

Having rocked the decks in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada now for three years, and found time in the studio for two, Drkwtr is quickly becoming a recognizable force in the underground scene.

With a strong background in Classical, Blues, Rock, and Metal, and experience playing guitar and singing in several different bands, Drkwtr has made a smooth transition to the underground scene and continues to amaze listeners with his "ninja" like reflexes, seamless musical stitching, and unorthodox tricks.

----
Generally a Breakbeat DJ, he shares a great love for House and Techno, often searching out tracks that share one or more of these qualities, making his sets vaired, fresh, and exciting.

Drkwtr will generally progress his sets from either soft to hard, or hard to soft, enjoying increasing or decreasing the energy of a dancefloor while telling a musical story.

Having rocked many of the local night clubs, bars, several hall parties, charity events, private shows, as well as dropping sets at Astral Harvest Music Festival (Driftpile), Motion Notion Festival (Drayton Valley) and Mad Hatter Festival (Blackfalds) have solidified him with a decent fan base and repeat performances.

He has played alongside some of the best DJ's, and producers, both near and far, including opening for the Legendary Soul Of Man (Fingerlickin Records).

He has many collaborations and projects with other DJ's, including:

One third of:
"Bongwater" (Nu Jazz, IDM, Experimental, Trip Hop, Hip Hop, Funk, Electronica)

Spearheading:
"Techno Breakfast" (Techno/Funky Techno)
((Generally for morning time at festivals where free breakfast is supplied for anyone present))

One half of:
"Mix & Match" (Party Bangers)

One half of:
"Isoteryk" (Liquid Dnb, Atmospheric Dnb, Drum Funk)

----
Drkwtr's production style is not regimented to any one genre in particular, however he tends towards fusing elements of Jazz and Funk in all his songs, often either upbeat and dark, or smooth and uplifting.

He puts emphasis on intense melodic composition, catchy chord progressions, and a minimalistic approach, following the artistic theory that "less is more".

He has a recent signing with "We Are Live Records" (UK), and "Breakzrboss Records" (CAN), along with a few independent releases, and albums.

He is currently working on a collaboration with a few other artists on an album titled "A DJ's Guide To The Zodiac": a collection of 13 tracks of various genres and styles to represent the signs of the Zodiac and their personalities through the use of sound.

How was 2016 for you?
2016 was a year of discovery and hard work. I've come a long way from the "doing it for shits and giggles" and "this is my career"
I've been honing my work, and learning to temper my sounds.

Down (DRKWTR Remix)
Can you tell us what your favourite thing is about your  track?
So the remix I did was a bit different, and for good reason. I didn't really want the remix to compete with the original, so I turned it on its head. My favourite part of the remix is the drop; no bass kick, just 808

Can you tell us about new project you will be working on 2017?
I have just finished a collaboration with One Arc Degree, and I'm currently working on a remix with Fizzix, and a funky banger with Sonek.

Imagine yourself walking into the studio; please may you talk me through a typical day? What are your habits?
First thing is to remove any and all distractions. I clear my mind before heading into battle. Open up a blank page and let whatever happens happen, and hope to hell whats happening is happening well enough.

How do you go about choosing what software and plug-ins you use?
I generally find out about software and plugins from some of my more adept audio tekkie friends and go from there. A lot of time, I use on board effects from Ableton, as they actually do a pretty good job for what I need.

What’s the one piece of DJ/production gear you can’t live without?
 My mind

Any particular artists/dj’s/ producers that really influenced you?
I've been influenced by so many artists and dj's over the years. It would take an entire book to write it all down, and would never be finished, because I'm still inspired on a daily basis!

How’s the  music scene in this moment in your country?
Alive and vibrant!

Often particular cities are linked to certain sounds and sub genres. Do you think living in your city is reflected in your music?
I don't base my sound on what other sounds are coming from Edmonton. I base my sounds on experiences, and interpretations of situations or feelings. At the root, I am a Breakbeat enthusiast, and a Minimal Techno lover. I use that as my base, and spatter bits of everything else I find amusing into it. I think living in my music is reflected in me.
